1. Arundhati Roy

Arundhati Roy is best known for her 1997 debut novel The God of Small Things, which won the Booker Prize for Fiction. Roy also works with environmental and human rights causes in India.

Roy was born in Shillong, Meghalaya and received his bachelor’s degree from the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi. Before writing his novel, Roy worked as a screenwriter for films big and small. Her 1989 screenplay, In Which Annie Gives It Their Ones, details her experiences as an architecture student. The film won the 1988 National Film Award for Best Original Screenplay.

2. Vikram Seth

Writer and poet Vikram seth is a noted novelist who has won numerous awards, including the Sahitya Academy Award, WH Smith Literary Award, and Padma Shri. Born in Kolkata, Seth attended Doon School, an all-boys school, and was the editor of Doon School Weekly. After finishing his studies at Doune, he moved to Tonbridge School in England. He later began his doctoral studies. It was Stanford, but it was never completed.

3. Jhumpa Lahiri

Indian-American writer Jhumpa Lahiri was born in London and is a Professor of Creative Writing at Princeton University. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, Lahiri has received the Henfield Foundation’s Transatlantic Award (1993), the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Addison-Metcalfe Award (2000), the Guggenheim Fellowship (2002), and the National Medal for Humanities (2014).

4. Aravind Adiga
